Join us for a 3-night pre-cruise tour in Rome!

Day 1 – October 7, 2026: Depart the U.S. on your flight to Rome (FCO).

Day 2 – October 8, 2026: Arrive in Rome and take the hotel shuttle to the hotel. We are picked up from our hotel and taken to the Rome, Italy temple. Everyone in the group explores the Visitors’ Center and temple grounds as time permits. If you wish to participate in an endowment session or other ordinances, you will need to make your own reservations with the temple. Sign up for the 3:45 pm session or the 4:00 pm appointments for sealing & initiatory. Please let us know what you have reserved. Our coach returns us to our hotel.

Day 3 – October 9, 2026: We transfer to a hotel closer to the heart of Rome. We visit a catacomb and see the outside of St. Paul’s Cathedral (we visit this on on post-cruise tour). We enjoy a walking tour including the Spanish steps, Trevi Fountain and the outside of the Pantheon. Along the way we stop and see many other sites as we enjoy the city and its history.

Day 4 – October 10, 2026: Rome wasn’t built in a day and it is impossible to see everything it has to offer, but we experience many highlights as we listen to Mauro, who is our LDS guide and a native Italian. We spend the day on foot visiting places such as St. Mary Major, St. Pietro in Vincoli and the Colosseum. As time permits, we will take in other amazing sites. This evening we enjoy an authentic Italian dinner before returning to our hotel. Dinner is included.

Day 5 – October 11, 2026: Today we load our luggage on the bus and head to church with a local English speaking unit. Following the meeting, we board our bus for transport to our cruise ship.

1-night Post-cruise Vatican Tour

Day 1 – October 23, 2026: We disembark the cruise ship and head to the Vatican. We go through the Vatican Museum, see the Sistine Chapel and St. Paul’s Cathedral. If time permits we might see a few additional sites. Our coach delivers us to the hotel.

Day 2 – October 24, 2026: Take the airport shuttle from our hotel to the Rome Airport and board you flights home.

Day 4 : Ephesus (Kusadasi), Turkey

October 14, 2026 (Wednesday)

Our tour takes us to one of the most impressive archaeological sites in the world, Ephesus. We tour the terrace houses that are part of the Ephesus site. We see the Odeon, the marble street where Paul held daily discussions, the Library of Celcus, the Temple of Hadrian and the great theater. We spend several hours strolling through this site. Following this we board the bus for a quick photo stop at the Artemision or Temple of Artemis. We return to the port at Kusadasi and you have the option of remaining on land for shopping or boarding the ship and relaxing. Tour Price: $150 per person

Day 5 : Kavala, Greece

October 15, 2026 (Thursday)

Kavala is one of the principle seaports of Macedonia. Today we start off heading inland to the ancient city of Philippi. Philippi is known for many things, but our purpose is to visit the place where the Apostle Paul was known to have visited. Although the site suffered a major earthquake in ancient times, we can still imagine what it might have been like when Paul preached here. Following our time in Philippi, we return to Kavala. In Kavala, we see the Kamares, the arched aqueduct and other interesting sites. Those who wish may choose to remain in Kavala for a time and walk back to the port. The others remain on the bus and head back to the port. Tour Price: $90 per person

Day 6 : Istanbul, Turkey

October 16, 2026 (Friday)

Our day begins with a visit to the Hippodrome, once a huge stadium seating over 100,000 chariot race spectators. We walk from there to the famous Blue Mosque built between 1609 -1616. We visit the domed Basilica of St. Sophia, one of the oldest standing churches in the world. Our next destination is the Topkapi Palace which served as the primary residence of the Ottoman Sultans for about 400 years. It is home to many holy relics. We examine the Basilica Cistern, the largest of the cisterns running underneath Istanbul. We have time on our own for lunch. After lunch, we stroll through the Grand Bazaar. It is truly an experience not to be missed. Tour Price: $150 per person

October 18, 2026 (Sunday)

We board a boat that takes us to the ruins of the archaeological site of Delos. Delos is located on Delos Island which is an uninhabited Greek Isle. We have a guided walking tour of the ruins with some time to explore on our own. Delos is the mythical birthplace of Apollo. It was a major religious center as well. We see ancient Doric temples, mosaics, and an amphitheater. We return back to the port of Mykonos. For those who wish there is time to explore Mykonos on your own or you can get back on the ship and relax. In Mykonos, you can grab a bite to eat, shop and enjoy the windmills from up close.

Day 9 : Athens (Piraeus), Greece

October 19, 2026 (Monday)

We start our day with a one-hour scenic bus ride to visit ancient Corinth where Paul arrived in 51 AD. We take a look at the Corinth Canal. We head back to Athens where we visit Acropolis Hill including the Parthenon, Erechtheion, Temple of Athena Nike and more. We also see Mars Hill where Paul once preached. We enjoy lunch together and have a bit of time on our own.We drive by other interesting sites as we make our way back to the port. Tour Price: $180 per person, lunch included

Day 10 : Katakolon (Olympia), Greece

October 20, 2026 (Tuesday)

We travel through the Pyrgos region on our way to the ancient Olympia Archaeological Site. Our guide tells us about the way of life here and points out interesting features such as the Temple of Zeus, the Heraion or Temple of Hera and the ancient stadium. You may even wish to race or walk across the finish line. We will visit the Olympian Archaeological museum and see the many artifacts uncovered at this site. Afterwards, we have some free time in the modern town of Olympia to grab a snack or do some shopping. Then we return to the port. Tour Price: $80 per person

We head to the ancient city of Pompeii. We spend some time strolling through the ancient ruins as our guide shares details about the lives' of the residents before the great eruption. We have an opportunity to view the somber and incredible plaster casts of some of the victims of the Mt. Vesuvius eruption. Mt. Vesuvius can be seen from Pompeii. Our tour continues with a scenic drive through the beautiful countryside along a coastal road on the Amalfi Coast. After about an hour we arrive at the wonderful town of Sorrento. Here you enjoy some free time to shop, eat or just enjoy the picturesque views of Sorrento. We then return to the ship. Tour Price: $165

If you did not sign up with Bountiful Travel for the post-cruise Vatican tour, make your own way to the airport for your flight home.

Carnival Legend lives up to its name. The ship has a smaller guest capacity than some of the larger ships in the cruise industry, but it does not lack for dining and entertainment.

Headliners

Mauro Properzi is associate professor of world religions and Christianity at Brigham Young University, where he has been teaching since 2011. He received graduate degrees in theology and religious studies from Harvard, the University of Cambridge and Durham University in the U.K., as well as the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He is the author of Mormonism and the Emotions (Fairleigh Dickinson University Press, 2015) and of several articles published in the Journal of Research on Christian Education, the International Journal of Religion and Spirituality in Society, the Journal of Mormon History, the Journal of Ecumenical Studies, Issues in Religion and Psychotherapy, and BYU Studies. He has taught at the BYU Jerusalem Center for two academic years: 2019-2020 and 2022-23. He has also directed six-weeks study abroad programs in Italy for BYU in 2024 and 2025. He was born and raised in Gorizia (Northeastern Italy) and served his mission in Southern Italy. He loves traveling, good food (especially Italian), soccer, and BYU sports. He and his wife Larissa are the parents of four children.
