Tips

Several of you have asked about the tipping for the bus driver and guide. This is done at the end of each leg the tour (anytime during the last day per bus driver).
• Driver: A tip is required for the driver and we recommend the amount of $30 per person for the tour, split between 2 drivers.
• LDS Guide: This tip is not required; but it is appreciated. If you feel they did a good job and would like to thank them, this is the perfect way to do so.

Payment Schedule

  • $250 per person due at time of booking
  • Final Payment: Final payment is due three months before the tour departure date.

Cancellation Policy

          Bountiful Travel recommends the purchase of travel insurance to help avoid loss of your travel expenses due to cancellations.

If Bountiful Travel cancels the tour: We will refund all deposits and any other payments unless the tour is canceled due to a pandemic or civil unrest.

If Bountiful Travel cancels due to a pandemic or civil unrest: The deposit is non-refundable. However, the deposit is transferable to a future tour. The balance will be refunded.

If guest cancels for any reason – The following terms apply

  • All tour costs are non-refundable.

  • Tour payments may be transferred to a new participant on the same reservation and on the same tour, subject to our approval. Fees may be assessed if this change is allowed.

The highlights of the tour are visiting site where the United States country began in Boston and Philadelphia, the Sacred Grove, Joseph Smith farm, historic Kirtland village, the Kirtland temple, Independence, Liberty Jail, Far West, historic Nauvoo, and the Nauvoo temple to name a few. You and your family will love Casey as he takes you to these historic places. We will stay in nice hotels all along the way, eating some of our meals at the hotels. We do meals at the hotels as we have found this to be a great way to allow for group interaction and better, quicker meals. 

Itinerary

Day 1 : Fly to Boston, Massachusetts

August 7, 2027 (Saturday)

You will depart this morning for Boston, MA. If you would like to visit the Boston MA Temple on your own, today is the time to do it. Plan to arrive at the hotel before 7:00 pm as you will have a chance to get to know the group and tour director at our meet & greet. Hotel: AC Cambridge Marriott Hotel 

Day 2 : Attend church- Vermont-Joseph Smith Birthplace

August 8, 2027 (Sunday)

We will attend sacrament meeting at a local church near the temple. Then our group will load the bus and head for Sharon, Vermont to experience the sites at the birth place of Joseph Smith. Meals : Breakfast, Dinner TBD. Hotel: AC Cambridge Marriott Hotel

Day 3 : Concord & Lexington MA

August 9, 2027 (Monday)

As we relate the story of the how United States became a nation during the Revolutionary War and the events leading up to the prophet Joseph Smith birth and the restoration of gospel, we will visit Walden Pond where Longfellow lived and wrote.  Then we head to Minute Man's Visitor Center. We will have lunch as a group at Colonial Inn. After lunch, we head to Lexington Battle Green for a guided walking tour.   Meals : Breakfast, Lunch. Hotel: AC Cambridge Marriott Hotel 

Day 4 : Boston Freedom Trail & USS Constitution

August 10, 2027 (Tuesday)

We will start our day off with a quiet visit in the morning at Bunker Hill  the site of an important Revolutionary War battle. OUr next stop is a tour of the USS Constitution.  After lunch on your own near the famous Faneuil Hall, our group will meet to have Casey guide us through the many sites along the Boston Freedom trail: Old State House where the Boston Massacre occured, Paul Rever's house, Beacon Hill, and Boston Commons Meals : Breakfast, Dinner TBD. Hotel: AC Cambridge Marriott Hotel 

Day 5 : Fly from Boston to Philadelphia- Independence Hall, Benjamin Franklin Museum and National Constitution Center

August 11, 2027 (Wednesday)

Our flight leaves this morning from Boston to Philadelphia so we can further our understanding of the making of a country. We will visit Independence Hall,the Square and the Liberty Bell.  Lunch will be on your own at Reading Terminal Market. Then our groups will head to Betsy Ross's home,Benjamin Franklin Free Post office & Museum and the National Constituation Center.  After we eat as a group, you have free time to attend the Philadelphia LDS Temple (if appts. available) or walk around town.  Meals : Breakfast, Dinner at the hotel. Hotel: Hilton Garden Inn City Center -Philadelphia

Day 6 : Harmony, Pennsylvania - Susquehanna River- Peter Whitmer Farm

August 12, 2027 (Thursday)

We say goodbye to the history of Philadelphia and travel to Harmony, PA and the Susquehanna River. Much of the translation of the Book of Mormon took place here. Also, this is where the Priesthood was restored and Joseph and Oliver were baptized. The sites include Joseph and Emma’s home, and the Isaac Hale home. Then we continue into New York state to visit the Peter Whitmer farm. For dinner, we will visit a quaint Amish shop/ restaurant, then head to the hotel. Meals : Breakfast, Lunch. Hotel: Hampton Inn and Suites Rochester/Victor

Day 7 : Palmyra - Sacred Grove - Hill Cumorah - Fayette, New York- Grand Bookstore

August 13, 2027 (Friday)

We will spend the day seeing the sites in Palmyra and Fayette New York. Our stops include the Sacred Grove, the Smith Family Farm, the rebuilt log home where Moroni’s visits took place, the Hill Cumorah, the Grandin Press (where the Book of Mormon was first published),  Meals : Breakfast, Dinner at the hotel. Hotel:Hampton Inn and Suites Rochester/Victor

Day 8 : Niagara Falls- drive to Kirtland, OH

August 14, 2027 (Saturday)

This morning we check out of our hotel and head toward Kirtland. On our way, we will stop at Niagara Falls, the oldest state park in the USA. We will board the Maid of the Mist boat which passes directly in front of the falls and enters Horseshoe Basin. This is a fun activity you don’t want to miss! After free time for lunch and shopping we travel to Kirtland, OH. Meals : Breakfast, Dinner at the hotel. Hotel : Holiday Inn Mentor

Day 9 : Kirtland

August 15, 2027 (Sunday)

Today we will attend sacrament meeting at a local ward, then visit sites in the Kirtland area. We will visit the Kirtland temple. It was here that the Savior appeared to Joseph and Oliver. Moses, Elias, and Elijah also appeared and restored the Keys of the Priesthood associated with the temple ordinances. We will also visit Joseph and Emma’s home. We will visit the historic village of Kirtland, where we will see the LDS Visitor’s Center, the Newell K. Whitney home (where Joseph and Emma lived) and the Newell K. Whitney store (which included the School of the Prophets and where many revelations, including the Word of Wisdom were received). Lunch in town on your own. We will also see the reconstructed Kirtland Schoolhouse, the Kirtland Ashery, and a reconstructed water-powered sawmill. We will visit the Morley Farm where a home was built for Joseph when he moved to Ohio. We will also visit the Johnson Farm, where much opposition came to Joseph and where the Church periodical The Evening and Morning Star was published. Meals : Breakfast, Lunch. Hotel: Holiday Inn/ Mentor, OH

Day 10 : Kirtland - Home

August 16, 2027 (Monday)

Today we will visit the historic village of Kirtland, where we will see the LDS Visitor’s Center, the Newell K. Whitney home (where Joseph and Emma lived) and the Newell K. Whitney store (which included the School of the Prophets and where many revelations, including the Word of Wisdom were received). We will also see the reconstructed Kirtland Schoolhouse, the Kirtland Ashery, and a reconstructed water-powered sawmill. We will visit the Morley Farm where a home was built for Joseph when he moved to Ohio.  Lunch at Mary Yoder's Amish Restaurant. Our tour has ended in Kirtland and our group will head to the Cleveland airport in the afternoon. Meals : Breakfast, Lunch. Hotel: Holiday Inn/ Mentor, OH

Casey Paul Griffiths is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Church History and Doctrine at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He is a director of BYU’s Church History Travel Study, leader of the BYU Interfaith Outreach efforts to Community of Christ, and President of the BYU Latter-day Saint Educators Society. He is the author of numerous books and articles on Latter-day Saint history, including What You Don’t Know About the 100 Most Important Events in Church History, authored with Susan Easton Black and Mary Jane Woodger. He has been a popular speaker and session director with EFY and BYU Education Week for nearly two decades, and has traveled around the world presenting his research and speaking on the history of the Latter-day Saints. He lives in Saratoga Springs with his wife, Elizabeth, and their four adorable children.
