International round-trip flights are NOT included – We will send flight booking instructions 4-5 months prior to the tour.

Cancellation Policy

  • To cancel, you must notify us in writing (by email). Additional fees may be assessed to cover non-refundable bookings such as flights and hotels. There is no refund for cancellations received less than 90 days prior to departure of the tour.

    1. If you cancel before final payment due date: Deposit is refundable or transferable as long as we (or you) can fill your spots. After final payment, the full amount is non-refundable and non-transferable.
    2. If Bountiful Travel cancels the tour: We will refund all deposits and any other payments unless the tour is canceled due to a pandemic or civil unrest.
    3. If Bountiful Travel cancels due to a pandemic or civil unrest: The deposit is non-refundable. However, the deposit is transferable to a future tour. The balance will be refunded.
    4. No changes can be made to land tour bookings within 30 days of tour departure date, including name changes. 

              Bountiful Travel recommends the purchase of travel insurance to help avoid loss of your travel expenses due to cancellations.

Journey with Hank Smith and Bountiful Travel on an African Safari. Enjoy time in Kenya visiting an elephant orphanage, the Nairobi temple and shopping. Visit a game reserve and see all of the amazing animals. Take a boat ride on Lake Naivasha to see the hippos. Visit Lake Nakuru National Park and enjoy the wildlife. Travel by train to Mombasa and relax on the beach and see the 16th century city sights. Hank Smith will entertain and amuse as you explore Africa with our adventurous LDS group.

Feeling extra adventurous? You can add on an optional 7-day/6-night Kilimanjaro climb to your trip. You must be in good to excellent physical condition to add this option. Fly from your home to Nairobi, Kenya.

Day 2 : Nairobi, Kenya

July 24, 2026 (Friday)

Arrive in Nairobi at the Jomo Knyatta International Airport where you are met and transferred to our hotel. (D)

Day 3 : Nairobi, Kenya

July 25, 2026 (Saturday)

We visit Nairobi National Park and enjoy the animals and the scenery. Next we go to an elephant orphanage and see these creatures up close. If time permits, we will attend a session in the Nairobi, Kenya Temple. We have time for shopping before returning to our hotel. We eat dinner at our hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 4 : Nairobi, Africa

July 26, 2026 (Sunday)

One day is not enough time to explore Nairobi. This morning we visit one of the local congregations and attend sacrament meeting. We return to our hotel for lunch. If we did not get to attend the temple yesterday, we will go to the temple grounds today. The rest of the afternoon is yours. Tonight we visit the home of a local resident and enjoy dinner in his home. He is located very close to the US Embassy. (B,L,D)

Day 5 : Masai Mara Game Reserve

July 27, 2026 (Monday)

This morning we pack our bags and head to the Masai Mara Game Reserve. It is quite a trek, but we are there in time for lunch. After lunch we head out on afternoon game drive. We spend the evening relaxing at our accommodations. (B,L,D)

Day 6 : Masai Mara Game Reserve

July 28, 2026 (Tuesday)

Today is filled with more game drive adventures. We have both a morning and an afternoon drive. Those who are interested may pay an additional fee and get up early for a hot air balloon ride which shows you the animals from above. We visit the Masai Village for a unique cultural experience. Day 7 : Lake Naivasha

July 29, 2026 (Wednesday)

All too soon it is time to leave the game reserve behind. We load up our bags and drive to lake Naivasha. Here we take a short boat ride to see the hippos. We visit Crescent Island and get to walk with the wild animals. We overnight near Lake Naivasha. (B,L,D)

Day 8 : Lake Nakuru/Lake Naivasha

July 30, 2026 (Thursday)

This morning we take an extended morning game drive at Lake Nakuru National Park. The scenery is stunning and the animals abound. Following our lunch, we have another short game drive on our way our of the park. We return to our hotel near Lake Naivasha. (B,L,D)

Day 9 : Mobasa, Africa

July 31, 2026 (Friday)

Today we head back to Nairobi and see the Karen Blixen Museum, home of the author of "Out of Africa." Following lunch, we board the standard gauge railway train to Mombasa. We overnight in Mombasa near the beach. (B,L,D)

Day 10 : Mobasa, Africa

August 1, 2026 (Saturday)

Today it is time relax a little. First we tour Mombasa. You learn of its' history and see why Mombasa is referred to as the 16th Century Gateway to East Africa. We admire its vibrant, narrow streets and the captivating architecture. After lunch at our resort, the afternoon is yours to enjoy. Spend it on the beach or take a stroll. We overnight in Mombasa at our resort. (B,L,D)

Day 11 : Nairobi/Fly Home

August 2, 2026 (Sunday)

Arise early for a quick breakfast. We head to the rail station for our return rail journey to Nairobi. On arrival, we are met and transferred to a hotel for a farewell lunch. For those not going on the Mt. Kilimanjaro climb, we have a bit of time for some last-minute shopping before heading to Jomo Kenyatta International for our flights home. (B,L)

Day 11 : Nairobi to Arusha, Tanzania

August 2, 2026 (Sunday)

The rest of the group flies home and we we transfer to Wilson Airport for a flight to Arusha-Tanzania. You can leave larger luggage at the Nairobi hotel or take it with you. Those going on the hike will need to provide sleeping bags, pads, jackets, rain gear, hiking boots, etc (limited to 33 lbs on your back). The tour operator will provide shelter and utensils for prepping and eating meals as described. On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, we transfer to our hotel and enjoy a briefing on our Kilimanjaro climb. (B,D)

Day 12 : Arrive Home

Arrive home if you did not book the Mt. Kilimanjaro climb.

Day 12 : Mandara Hut

August 3, 2026 (Monday)

After an early breakfast, briefing and equipment check (a strict 33 pound gear weight limit will be enforced), we hike through the dense rain forest. We enjoy the impressive vegetation and see all sorts of monkeys and birds. After this 3 to 4 hour journey, we reach the Mandara Hut. We overnight here and prepare for tomorrow's journey. (B,L,D)

Day 13 : Horombo Hut

August 4, 2026 (Tuesday)

We start out early and soon ascend above timberline. After 5-6 hours hiking, we reach the Horombo Hut, our stop for the night. Take in the amazing views as we eat and relax for the night. (B,L,D)

Day 14 : Kibo Hut

August 5, 2026 (Wednesday)

Today we climb to the Kibo Hut. We cover about 8 miles, but do not be deceived. This could take up to 7 hours and we will be starting at approximately 12,204 ft and climbing to 15,436 ft. Upon reaching the Kibo hut, we have an early meal and go to bed early as the night will be short. (B,L,D)

Day 15 : Uhuru Peak

August 6, 2026 (Thursday)

Around 11 pm (on day 4), we are awakened and begin our trek. After an hour, we start the long and strenuous ascent to the summit. By sunrise we reach Gillman's Point, the crater rim of Kilimanjaro. A couple of hours later, we reach the summit of Uhuru Peak, 19,343 ft! We turn around and follow the same path back to the Kibo Hut where a warm meal awaits us. We continue the descent to the Horombo Hut where we eat and rest for the night. (B,L,D)

Day 16 : Arusha, Tanzania

August 7, 2026 (Friday)

We walk downhill to the Mandara Hut and enjoy a warm lunch. We traverse the tropical rain forest and arrive back at the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. We are transferred to our hotel in Arusha. (B,L,D)

Day 17 : Nairobi, Kenya

August 8, 2026 (Saturday)

We eat breakfast at our hotel before being transferred to the Kilimanjaro International Airport for an afternoon flight to Nairobi. Upon arrival at Wilson Airport, we are transferred to a hotel where we can relax until time to head to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for our flights home. (B)

Hank is a master teacher. He is super fun and engaging and youth love him. He grew up in St. George, Utah. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Dixie State University (2002), his MBA (2005) from Utah State University, and his PhD in educational leadership (2014) from Brigham Young University. He is currently an instructor at BYU. In addition to his work in consulting with companies and families, Hank has presented a nationwide Best of Especially for Youth, Retreat for Girls, Time to Blossom, and Time Out for Girls programs, several University Education Weeks, public school assemblies, and various forums around the country. Hank has also authored many books and Audio CD with Covenant Communications. Hank and his wife, Sara, currently live in Mapleton, Utah. Hank says that, “Sara is amazing, she knows everything about me and still loves me.” They have 5 adorable children. Hank enjoys running marathons (15 so far) and eating lots of ice cream, which is why he runs marathons. More than anything else he loves being with his wonderful wife and children.
