Tel Arad, the site of an ancient Israelite temple and fortress; the Canaanite king of Arad attacked Israel as they journeyed to the Promised Land. Valley of Elah, beautiful valley, where David defeated the Philistine warrior named Goliath. Tel Lachish, an archaeological site of historical significance; Joshua and the Israelites conquered Lachish; King Rehoboam fortified Lachish after the division of the kingdom of Israel; Lachish is an example of a city that was destroyed by the Assyrians (701 BC). Gath (“winepress”), one of the five chief cities of the Philistines; home of Goliath and other giants; the ark of the covenant resided here; twice king David fled from Saul and dwelt in Gath.

Shiloh, the Tabernacle resided here for some 370 years; Hannah prayed for a son; God blessed her with Samuel; Eli and his sons served in the Tabernacle. Samaria, the capital of the Northern Kingdom; King Ahab erected an altar to the false god Baal; Elijah visited; because of the Northern Kingdom’s sins, God allowed Assyria to destroy it; the beginning of the Samaritan people.

October 28, 2025 (Tuesday)

Bethlehem, Jacob’s wife, Rachel, died and was buried here; home of Naomi and then also Ruth; Ruth married Boaz; King David’s hometown and he was later anointed here; birthplace of Jesus Christ.
