Enjoy one of the best excursions in Alaska, a wildlife & whale watching adventure. View these massive whales from the comfort of a heated cabin or from the outside deck of these custom whale watching boats. We stay alert as we spot all sorts of wildlife. Sea otters, whales and bears are among the animals we may see. We spend about 2 hours on the tour. $160 per person when paying by check or ACH.

Day 4 : Skagway, AK

July 29, 2024 (Monday)

Skagway has a lot to offer and it is hard to select just one activity. Today you have two options for your excursion. Option A: Ride the famous White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad across the Canadian border. Admire the beautiful scenery as you go. At the train depot in Fraser, transfer to a bus for the return journey to Skagway and a guide regales you with humorous and interesting stories of the Klondike Gold Rush. Tour is about 3.5 hours. $195 when paying by check or ACH. Options B: Journey along the Klondike Highway to the Yukon territory on your way to playing with Alaskan Husky sled dog puppies. This journey includes the summit of White Mountain, Skagway city tour, photo stops including the Welcome to Alaska Sign and adorable puppies. You will have a chance to see a real working kennel and learn about it's operation from the dog handlers themselves. We visit Tagish Lake Kennel run by Michelle Phillips, an Iditarod veteran. Approximate tour length 4 hours. $125 per person when paying by check or ACH. For an additional charge of $55 per person, if paying by cash or ACH, a limited number of people can actually go on a sled dog run.

Our first stop is the salmon hatchery to watch and learn about the life cycle of salmon. This interesting and educational stop also has a fish ladder so you can watch the salmon migrate upstream. There is also a fascinating aquarium onsite. See the major historical sites of the city including the Governor’s Mansion. Our guide entertains us with interesting tales of Juneau folklore. We take a scenic drive out to the world-famous Mendenhall Glacier and its magnificent setting. We have time to walk around the park and be amazed by the spectacular beauty of the glacier. We conclude the day with a delicious Salmon Bake (chicken also available) in a relaxing outdoor atmosphere. $190 per person when paying by check or ACH. Dinner included.

We ride our bus to the famous Butchart Gardens. The gardens have been designated as a National Historic Site of Canada. We have time on our own to enjoy and admire the beauty of the 55 acres of internationally renowned floral and botanical displays. These magnificent grounds are an absolute must-see experience. We hop aboard our bus and on the way back to the port; we enjoy a quick drive past the Government House, China Town District and the world-famous Empress Hotel. $100 per person when paying by check or ACH.

John was born and raised in Salt Lake City, and he served his mission in the Philippines. Following his mission he attended the University of Utah, and later graduated from BYU. John has taught the Book of Mormon at Brigham Young University, and the BYU Salt Lake Center since 1996. In 2003, he earned a Master’s Degree in Religious Education. He is the author of more than two dozen books and CDs many of which, he says, are effective non-prescription sleep-aids. He loves to golf, write, read, and play the banjo and guitar. John is a founding member of the local chapter of the Andy Griffith Show Re-run Watchers Club, and does a spot-on impersonation of Deputy Sheriff Barney Fife. John was recently released as bishop of the Salt Lake Winder 10th Ward, and is now teaching Sunday School with his wife, Kim. John and Kim have six children and a completely full SUV which doubles in value when it’s full of gasoline.

TYLER GRIFFIN is currently an instructor in the Department of Ancient Scripture at BYU. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering and, after marrying an Angel named Kiplin Crook, he began teaching seminary in Brigham City, Utah. He then began teaching at the Institute adjacent to Utah State University. One of his assignments there was working in the Seminary Preservice program (teaching and training potential seminary teachers). While there, he developed an online home study seminary program. His masters and doctorate degrees are both in Instructional Technology. He loves designing and developing digitally immersive tools for helping people understand the scriptures better.
