File:Constellation.jpgGTS Celebrity Constellation is a Millennium-class cruise ship of Celebrity Cruises. Built in 2002, she is the co-flagship of the Celebrity fleet, along with Century-class ship Century. She was originally named Constellation, but renamed in May 2007. Her three sister ships are the Celebrity Infinity, Summit, and Millennium. Constellation consistently receives top honors from Condé Nast’s readers survey, and was ranked in 2007 by readers as one of the “best large cruise ships”. Constellation is a ship that makes the most sense for someone 40-plus looking for an experience that straddles mega-mainstream and luxury-lite. In both price, quality of food and service, and general ambience, the constellation deftly balances the choices offered by big ships and the intimacy offered by smaller vessels.

October 30 – Athens Arrive: Transfer to Hotel

October 31st – Athens and Corinth – Transfer to ship

We start the tour by visiting the so called “sacred rock”, the Acropolis. Here you will see the Parthenon that was dedicated to goddess Athena (Parthenos), Propylea, the monumental entrance to the sacred area, the temple of Athena Nike which was dedicated to Athena-Nike (Victory) the Erechtheion with its famous female figures-statues the Caryatides or Maidens dedicated to both goddess Athena and god Poseidon.  The Odeum of Herodus Atticus and the ruins of the first theatre in the whole world the Theatre of  Dionysus and finally the Areopagus (Mars Hill).

We will proceed to the Temple of Olympian Zeus (visit) and then to Panathenaic or Kallimarmaro Stadium which hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 (short visit).  We will drive by the Prime Minister’s Residence (Maximou Mansion), the former Royal Palace, today the Presidential Mansion and the House of Parliament with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (short stop so as to watch the changing of the guards).   We continue our tour by driving up to the highest point of Athens, the Lycabettus Hill (the best 360 degree panoramic view of Athens).  From Lycabettus Hill we’ll proceed to the oldest and most picturesque neighbourhood of Athens, Plaka (stone-paved narrow streets, traditional Greek tavernas -best gyros- antique and souvenir stores) and the Tower of the Winds.

After free time for lunch in Plaka we’ll drive through the city centre to the area of the  Flea Market (street bazaar, antique stores) where we’ll visit the Ancient Agora (the political, financial and commercial centre of ancient Athens).  There we’ll see the temple of Hephaistos, known also as Theseum (best preserved ancient temple in Greece) and the Stoa of Attalos (an ancient shopping centre) which was restored in the fifties by the American Archaeological School.  It is a peaceful and inspiring site and especially in Spring when everything is in full bloom one’s spirit lifts. Our tour will be completed with our visit to the New Acropolis Museum, , “Home” of the Parthenon Marbles and important and impressive archaeological findings from the sacred rock of the Acropolis. If time permits we will visit the ancient city of Corinth.  Then we will transfer to the ship.

Haifa & Jerusalem, Israel: We have decided to do an overnight stay in Jerusalem. This gives us a couple more hours in Jerusalem on day two and allow us to see more sites, do a little shopping (we’ll take everybody, who would like to go, to an olive wood shop in the evening), and get a better feel for the food and culture of Israel. $500.

Day 1: Haifa: We’ll get off the ship as early as possible and make our way through the northern parts of Israel and the Sea of Galilee region. This is the area where many of Christ’s greatest teachings and miracles took place. We will first head far north to Tel Dan & Caesarea Phillipi. These were the northern borders of ancient Israel. It is the location where Peter declared his witness of Christ and was promised the keys of the kingdom. From there, we will visit Capernaum, where we will see the remnants of the synagogue where Christ possibly taught. We will discuss the miracles that took place here. We will take a boat ride onto the Sea of Galilee and visit one the proposed sites for the Mount of Beatitudes. Time permitting, we will visit Mount Carmel, where Elijah’s miraculous confrontation with the priests of Baal took place. Return to ship.

Day 2: Jerusalem, Israel (Ashdod): We will begin this tour atop the Mount of Olives where we will have a panoramic view of the Old City and Dome of the Rock. We will then go to the Western Wall and go through the Western Wall tunnel tour. From there we will visit the Old City, starting with the Pools of Bethesda and St. Anne’s church. We will walk through the Old City, ending up at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where some Christians believe the death and burial of Christ took place. Here we will give you some free time to shop, eat and visit the church.

We will then walk to Mount Zion and visit the House of Caiaphas and Church of Gallacantu, the site where Jesus was taken to the High Priest after coming out of Gethsemane. In the late afternoon, we will visit the City of David and Hezekiah’s tunnel. We will check in at the hotel. For those who would like, we will take you to Jimmy’s olive wood shop after dinner.

Day 3: Jerusalem – We will start the morning with a visit to Bethlehem. In Bethlehem, we will visit the traditional site where Christ was born. We will then travel to the cave’s and fields where shepherds kept their flocks in Bethlehem. After Bethlehem, we will return to the Old City and visit the Garden Tomb and Golgotha, where we will see the spot many believe to be the location of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. We will then return to our ship.

Crete, Chania: Crete Village & Range Rover Tour: We will take a Range Rover ride up into the mountains and villages high about Chania/Souda. This tour combines off-road adventure with a cultural experience into the lives of shepherds and those living in the small villages of Crete. We will end with free time in the Old City. You will love this tour. $80

Mykonos: Island of Delos & Walking City Tour:  We take a 30minute boat trip to the island of Delos, which in whole is considered an archeological site, although only 1/6 of it has been excavated. During the tour we walk through the most well excavated residential area ,dating back to 3rd-2nd century B.C. , seeing beautiful mosaics, walking past and in what would have once been shops, homes and workshops. We reach the theater and then from their we head to the more spiritual side of the island, the sanctuary of Apollo and his and his twin sister Artemis’s birthplace. Delos may be an abandoned island today but in ancient times it was one of the most important religious centers and later on of the greatest trade centers in the eastern Mediterranean. On Delos there are also remains of temples dedicated to Egyptian and Syrian gods, gods from Beirut and even one of the oldest Jewish synagogues of the Diaspora dating 2nd-1st century.

A Walking Tour of Mykonos Town gives one the opportunity to become familiar with the labyrinth of streets which form this very picturesque and unique little town. On the way, you will hear about the culture, traditions and true identity of the island. Not only popular-streets are chosen but also back streets, so as you can see what Mykonos Town was like before it became one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.
