Join Dave Hadlock and John Bytheway on a Book of Mormon cruise adventure. This 7-night cruise out of New Orleans, Louisiana includes stops in Mexico and Grand Cayman. Costa Maya is consistently one of the highest rated stops for a Book of Mormon cruise itinerary (one of a few stops with ruins that date back to Book of Mormon time period). You will love the private tours we offer in each stop. We will visit some of the most amazing ruins that can be seen from a cruise itinerary, including Chacchoben and Tulum. You will also love the relaxing day at Singray City. Dave & John will help bring the scriptures to life as they teach onboard the ship and on site. Great guides, great speakers and a great itinerary.

Royal Carribean Vision of the Seas – When Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas launched in 1998, it was the last in a class of vessels whose design represented the freshest and most innovative at that point in the company’s history. (It followed Legend, Enchantment, Grandeur, Rhapsody and Splendour of the Seas.) The key? Each of the ships, albeit in the mid-size range, also offered big-ship touches. Royal Caribbean is a very family friendly cruise line…great for LDS groups.

Shore Excursions: We offer great excursions for a great price – Cruise rate does not include excursions!

Grand Cayman: Stingray City & Snorkeling Tour

stingray-3.jpgThis shore excursion on Grand Cayman will take us to a sandbar in the Caribbean called Sting Ray City. We will bus from the dock to the other side of the island where we will get on our private boat (for our LDS tour group only) that takes us out to the sandbar. Upon arriving, we will be greeted by a ton of stingrays as they swim up to the boat in order to be fed. Feel free to get down in the water to touch, hold and feed the stingrays. Get your picture taken with a stingray. After plenty of time at the sand bar, we will boat over to a reef where we will have the opportunity to do some snorkeling. $65 per person

Costa Maya: Ruins of Chacchoben and Maya Village Experience: This side-tour from the port of Costa Maya will allow youchacchoben_tour to enjoy the peaceful site of Chacchoben. You will enjoy the jungle setting of Chacchoben and its majestic ruins. This site is a late Book of Mormon time site. Learn how the structures and rituals of the Maya relate to the Book of Mormon and LDS beliefs. After visiting the ruins, we will head to a little Maya village where we will have the opportunity to see how the Maya lived and make corn tortillas. The Maya experience at the village has become a favorite for many guests. We’ll have a Maya lunch before returning to the ship.  ($120).

tulum.jpgTulum Ruins: From Cozumel see one of the most famous and beautiful of the Maya sites. Tulum sits atop a cliff overlooking the ocean–the setting is surreal. Our local LDS guide will take us through this site, highlighting the history and archaeology of the site along with religious perspectives on the site. There will be plenty of the time on site for those who would like to also shop or swim on the beautiful coastal beaches near the ruins. Price is $120.

All Shore Excursions are optional and may be purchased separate from the cruise rate. Our tours are private for our LDS group and separate from the ships excursions.

John Bytheway:John was born and raised in Salt Lake City, and he served his mission in the Philippines. Following his mission he attended the John-and-Kim-in-Jerusalem-e1442287749196University of Utah, and later graduated from BYU. John has taught the Book of Mormon at Brigham Young University, and the BYU Salt Lake Center since 1996. In 2003, he earned a Master’s Degree in Religious Education. He is the author of more than two dozen books and CDs many of which, he says, are effective non-prescription sleep-aids.

He loves to golf, write, read, and play the banjo and guitar. John is a founding member of the local chapter of the Andy Griffith Show Re-run Watchers Club, and does a “spot-on” impersonation of Deputy Sheriff Barney Fife. John was recently released as bishop of the Salt Lake Winder 10th Ward, and is now teaching Sunday School with his wife, Kim.  John and Kim have six children and a completely full SUV which doubles in value when it’s full of gasoline.
Dave Hadlock: Dave has been traveling with groups for over 14 years. He began by taking groups into Central America and has now added the Holy Lands. Dave has completed the course work at BYU for a master’s degree in Ancient Near Eastern Studies. He has also studied Mesoamerican history and the Maya culture. His passion is the study and teaching of ancient scripture by trying to put it in its correct cultural and linguistic context. His style of teaching is straight from the scriptures, using them as his primary source. His gift is taking difficult doctrinal & scriptural passages and making them understandable to all.

He has conducted over 70 cruises and tours through Mexico and the proposed Book of Mormon lands during the last 14 years and has taught many years of gospel doctrine and institute classes. Dave is your director if you want to understand the Book of Mormon in its ancient New World context, while still having a blast. There are few with his background and knowledge of the ancient Maya and the Book of Mormon. He loves being with people. He’s personable and fun. Check out testimonials to hear what guests say about his teaching style.
